Region

The late great Tip O’Neill once said, “All politics is local.” Our intrepid breakfast crew wanted to see if that applied to delicious breakfasts as well.

Our crew this Sunday morning consisted of Mike, Tonto, and Matt (a.k.a. the Sausage King) and we decided to try Region, a new restaurant on 2nd Street in St. Clair that specializes in fresh, locally sourced food. So, what did the crew think?

Matt ordered two scrambled eggs, homefries, and (of course) sausage. Mike ordered two eggs over-easy, homefries, and smoked brisket. Tonto ordered off the list of specials: strawberry-stuffed French Toast with a side of brisket.

Establishment: 3/5 – The restaurant is squeezed into a narrow storefront with on-street parking, so keep your parallel parking skills sharp, unlike Matt. He may be the Sausage King, but parallel parking is not his skill set. Breakfast was delayed until he could get his Sausage Mobile parked. The inside of the place is beautifully restored and cozy.

Service: 3.5/5 – The restaurant is relatively new, so there were a few hiccups in the service, but our server was very polite and showed a lot of hustle. We’re sure that will all be ironed out in due time.

Appearance: 4.5/5 – Everything looked great, but a half point was deducted after a spirited debate between Mike and Tonto. Mike wasn’t a fan of the way the brisket was cut, saying it looked like roast beef. Tonto ate his too quickly to notice any shape. Regardless of the shape, it was tender and smoked to perfection.

Taste: 5/5 – As with anything from ideas to food to dance moves, freshness matters! Everything tasted awesome!

Price: 3.5/5 – A little pricey for our area, but in our opinion you get what you pay for.

So if you’re looking for a delicious, fresh, locally sourced breakfast (and you have reasonable parallel parking skills) give Region in St. Clair a try. I know we’ll be back.
